The Czech Republic has become a Member of the DARIAH ERIC consortium
On the occasion of 12th meeting of the DARIAH ERIC (Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities) General Assembly, held in Zagreb, Croatia, the application of the Czech Republic to join the DARIAH ERIC was officially approved. The Czech Republic became the 19th Member State that will participate in the activities of this European research infrastructure for the arts and humanities. The role of the Czech national coordinator of research activities in the DARIAH ERIC will be taken over by the LINDAT/CLARIAH-CZ large research infrastructure, hosted by the Charles University.
The main goal of DARIAH ERIC is to enhance and support digital research and educational activities in the arts and humanities. The DARIAH ERIC provides digital research tools and shares research data on the basis of open access policy approach. The DARIAH ERIC increases their availability and usability and creates conditions for international comparative research. In 2014, the DARIAH research infrastructure adopted the legal framework of ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium). Currently, the DARIAH ERIC has 19 Members and several other cooperating partners in 8 non-Member countries. The statutory seat of DARIAH ERIC is based in Paris, France.
The Czech Republic will participate in the research activities of DARIAH ERIC through LINDAT/CLARIAH-CZ (Digital Research Infrastructure for Language Technologies, Arts and Humanities) – a large research infrastructure project, which is coordinated by Prof Jan Hajič, representing the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University. LINDAT/CLARIAH-CZ facilitates the cooperation of 11 Czech research institutions active in the arts and humanities areas, such as linguistics, history, historical bibliography, culture, science of culture, art history, philosophy, film culture, visual art, musicology, history of music, ethnology, folklore, archaeology and other interdisciplinary fields. In addition, the LINDAT/CLARIAH-CZ serves as a common distributed national node of the Czech Republic in the European Research Infrastructure Consortium CLARIN ERIC (Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure).
