The Extreme Light Infrastructure – 9th Call for Users

The Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) is pleased to announce the opening of the 9th ELI User Call on 15 September 2026. Researchers worldwide are invited to submit proposals for experiments accessing ELI’s state-of-the-art instruments and research capabilities.

Proposal Submission Deadline: 20 October 2026, 12:00 (noon) CEST

Apply Here

All submitted proposals will undergo a feasibility assessment and an international peer-review process, and the planned experimental period for submissions awarded is May-October 2027.

The 9th Call expands ELI’s User Programme with new experimental capabilities:

  • Petawatt driven Surface High-Harmonics Generation Beamline (SHHG-PW) at the ELI ALPS Facility, offered as an experimental platform, enables investigations on relativistic plasma mirrors, and secondary emissions from over-dense plasmas.
  • P3 experimental platform, driven by the L4f ATON multi-petawatt, kilojoule-class laser at the ELI Beamlines Facility, provides a new environment for experiments exploring extreme light-matter interactions and related high-field phenomena.

The complete offer of available equipment and experimental opportunities is available on the ELI User Portal, together with guidelines for Users to navigate the proposal submission site (User Office System).

IMPORTANT NOTE

  • Terms and Conditions of Access (TCA) have been updated. Acceptance of the TCA is required for proposal submission and access to the ELI Facilities.
  • Review instrument-specific information carefully. Beamtime periods and operating conditions vary between instruments. Be prepared to carry out your experiment during the beamtime period allocated by ELI.

Researchers are strongly encouraged to contact the relevant instrument scientists as early as possible to discuss the feasibility of their experimental concepts, technical requirements and available capabilities. Early engagement gives applicants more time to develop a strong and well-founded proposal.
