In 2023, the Czech Republic and the Swiss Federal Council signed a Framework Agreement on the implementation of the Second Swiss Contribution to selected member states of the European Union to reduce economic and social disparities within the European Union (the so-called Swiss Contribution). The Framework Agreement is the basic document for the implementation of Swiss-Czech Cooperation Programme, which also includes the Czech-Swiss Research Infrastructure Initiative. The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS) serves as the coordinating body for the Initiative. The Initiative aims to support Czech research infrastructures and bilateral partnerships with Swiss organizations through two calls for proposals, which will enable the distribution of the Swiss contribution (13 million CHF) and the national co-financing share (2.29 million CHF) to successful applicants.
The program entered into force in April 2025, and both calls for proposals were announced that same year: Call 8K2501 was for the submission of a predefined project by the ELI ERIC (Extreme Light Infrastructure ERIC). Call 8K2502 was aimed at supporting research infrastructure projects in the fields of environmental sciences, biological and medical sciences, and the social sciences and humanities.
