The TRIANGLE project is a joint initiative of research infrastructures—CZECRIN on the Czech side and SCTO on the Swiss side. These infrastructures will combine their expertise in the field of clinical trials, i.e. the systematic testing of medicines and therapeutic procedures. The TRIANGLE project focuses both on the development of professional education in this area and on research supporting clinical trials.
In the field of education, the TRIANGLE project aims to create a systematic training framework for experts involved in the design, conduct, evaluation, and reporting of various types of clinical studies. In doing so, it will help strengthen the conditions for conducting a greater number of higher-quality clinical trials and enhance the attractiveness of the Czech Republic for international clinical research. This may lead to faster access to modern medicines and innovations, improved quality of care, and more efficient use of resources.
The second pillar of the TRIANGLE project is research and support for the development of modern therapies (such as gene or cell therapies). The project will help to map the rules and procedures for testing these therapies, thereby supporting their future development. These outcomes will strengthen both infrastructures in the long term and create conditions for conducting clinical trials involving these specific therapies, with all the above-mentioned benefits for patients (especially those with rare diseases).
The third pillar is to support greater patient involvement in research. The project aims to foster more open communication between patients and researchers so that research better reflects the real needs of patients and their experiences with disease and treatment.
Overall, the TRIANGLE project contributes to ensuring that new medicines and therapeutic approaches reach patients more quickly and safely, with greater regard for their actual needs, while also strengthening public trust in healthcare research.
Abstract and Project Objectives
The Czech-Swiss cooperation project between the CZECRIN&SCTO research infrastructures, full members of the ECRIN-ERIC, comprehensively link education, research training, regulatory expertise & technological advancement of infrastructures, enable conducting high-impact international research, involvement in European grant schemes and initiatives (ERDERA, Horizon Europe).
The project aims to develop education as a strategic tool for building capacities to conduct clinical trials (CT) effectively, respond to new challenges, and contribute actively to the development of the European Research Area. Within own research activities, the project covers preparation for CT with ATMPs, the GMP-GCP integration, the development of methodologies to address the needs of the environment, research in CT education & patient involvement.
The TRIANGLE project is built on 3 pillars:
- Empowering Clinical Research Professionals: The outcome is a bilingual program for the continuous professional development of infrastructure staff (WP1) (providing flexible and systematic competence building for all phases of CT with the experts’ involvement from CZECRIN&SCTO). The output will strengthen the infrastructures capacity to support excellent research (short and longterm) and provide topics for own research.
- Empowering Innovation in Advanced Therapies: Development of regulatory expertise for ATMP (WP2) through a pilot project integrating GMP&GCP principles, supported by the acquisition of equipment
- Empowering Engagement in Research: providing support, dialogue & inclusivity for patients within their role as patient representatives, alongside connection with researchers (WP3)
